Abstract

More than five years have passed since autonomous driving of automobiles has become an important topic in society. Nevertheless, the realization of "autonomous driving" still seems to be far away. Is autonomous driving really feasible? In this paper, we take the position that asking this question is not always appropriate. On that basis, I would like to reiterate the importance of thinking about what kind of autonomous driving will be realized and how to utilize autonomous driving technology in society, and I would like to introduce some of the issues that the author considers important. 自動車の自動運転が社会における重要なトピックとなってもはや5 年以上が経過している．それにもかかわらず，「自動運転」の実現はまだ遠いように見える．果たして自動運転は本当に実現可能なのか？本稿では，この問いを立てること自体が必ずしも適切ではないという立場をとる．そのうえで，どのような自動運転を実現していくか，自動運転技術をどう社会に活用するかについて考えることの重要性を改めて指摘するとともに，筆者が重要と考える論点をいくつか紹介したい．
