Abstract

In response to the occurrence of a series of enormous meteorological disasters in recent years, efforts for disaster prevention and mitigation are being promoted. To create a safe and secure society that is resistant to meteorological disasters, faster and more accurate meteorological forecast information is required, and for this purpose, the sophistication of the underlying observation technology is indispensable. In recent years, a phased array radar for meteorology that observes the three-dimensional space of the whole sky with unprecedented frequency has appeared. This latest radar, which has extremely high spatiotemporal resolution, is considered to be an innovative technology for improving the prediction of sudden meteorological disasters, and research and development for disaster prevention use is currently underway. This paper summarizes the trends of research and development on phased array radar and future prospects for its use in meteorological disaster prediction. [Google Translate]
