Abstract

Alcohol-sensitising drugs are normally prescribed to achieve abstinence, but in smaller and individually adjusted dosage, they can be used as an aid to controlled drinking. A case is described in which, following a period of abstinence, the regular use of supervised disulfiram early in the week enabled the patient to drink in a consistently controlled fashion at weekends, despite the failure of previous abstinence-based treatments.
