Abstract

According to WHO estimates, about a quarter of adults report physical abuse in childhood (database 2016). More than 20 million people in the Iranian population are children and adolescents under the age of 18, comprising more than 25 percent of the Iranian population (database 2016).

The prevalence of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents in Iran is on the rise, and anxiety disorders are a growing concern in a variety of studies (Khaleghi, Mohammadi et al., 2018).

Some consequences of child abuse can include post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, low self-esteem, social dysfunction, interpersonal problems, high risk behaviors, suicide, and aggression (Sowmya, Seshadri et al., 2016).
