Abstract

The claimed individual and socially beneficial, calming and pleasure-inducing effects of cannabis appear to depend on low dose use in a pleasant setting by a stable person. This applies to other drugs, particularly alcohol and tobacco, which are more familiar to our culture, more likely to be controlled by traditional mores and subject to increasing pressures (such as Breathalyzer and advertising legislation) directed towards reducing substance use.
