Abstract

In this article, the author offers a summary of existing legislation and litigation related to accessing and retrieving crash data from a vehicle system. Examples of search warrants, court orders and consent forms are provided; these can assist with the development of best practices for search warrant/court order applications. The information provided can also aid the design of consent documents to authorize imaging data from a vehicle system. The article focuses on data that can be retrieved via the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Tool, though the analysis is broadly applicable.
