Abstract

Background

Study of patterns of homicide in any civil society is the first step towards development of intervention to reduce the impact of homicidal crimes and violence. Annual homicide rate is best indicator of level of violence in society.

Material and Method

The following study examined 55 cases (78.57%) of homicides where death was produced by inflicting various mechanical injuries on the body, reported during the july 2015 to October 2016

Results and Conclusion

Average Within study duration i.e. July-2015 to October-2016, among 2998 medico legal autopsy total 70 cases of homicide noted. So the incidence rate of homicidal cases among medico legal cases was 2.42% during study duration. Majority of victims were from male sex. Male: Female Sex ratio of homicidal victim was 1.8: 1. Blunt force was the most commonly employed method seen in 35 cases, (63.63%). It was followed by sharp penetrating force seen in 13 cases, (23.6%) and sharp and heavy combine forces seen in 5 cases, (9.0%). Head injury was quite common in homicide. Maximum external injuries were seen on the head and mostly they were produced by hard, blunt and heavy weapons. Stab injuries were commonly seen on the chest and abdomen.
