Abstract

The paper describes such an approach in which the change-over criterion from Zebra to Pelican crossings is based on the minimization of the sum of pedestrian and vehicle waiting costs. Computer simulation studies were carried out for both Zebra and Pelican situations. Simulation of Zebra and Pelican crossings for both two- and four-lane highways were performed. It was found that pedestrian interarrival times closely followed a negative exponential distribution.
