Abstract

Theories abound regarding the seasonal variation of suicide. Why does springtime with its return of light, growth, and energy cheerily welcome so many broken souls into their forever homes beneath newly greened dirt? Studies cite many potential contributors. Is inflammation owing to seasonal allergies the culprit, or maybe it is heat that agitates the depressed into action? Others wonder whether rainfall could be the gloomy precipitant, or perhaps sunshine's interaction with neurotransmitter levels is to blame.
