Abstract

Describes some of the unique aspects of psychotherapeutic interventions using the telephone. Telephone therapists are classified into 2 basic types: crisis counseling and informational. Especially in the 1st type, telephone contacts permit the client to have much more control of the therapy and may alleviate his concerns about being victimized or about preserving his anonymity. Difficulties of this tool involve the inclination for the counselor to revert to a conversational rather than therapeutic mode. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
