Abstract

There has been a good deal of speculation about the reasons why people choose to become police officers. One predominant view is that some do so because of their desire to be law enforcers, while others become police officers primarily to be of service to the community. However, little empirical research has been conducted on this issue... The responses of the 128 recruits who completed the questionnaire were subjected to a factor-analysis using program BMDO3M of the BIOMED statistical package from UCLA. Three major and two minor factors were identified...
