• Determine the parental barriers to ACS is essential to develop effective interventions.

• Traffic volume/speed, crime, and distance are the main Ecuadorian parental barriers.

• Distance was negative barriers for parents of Ecuadorian children and adolescents.

• Dangerous intersections barrier was associated with Ecuadorian passive adolescents.

• New strategies should improve parental safety perception and traffic in school areas.
