Abstract

For a study of women's occupational persistence in federal law enforcement, qualitative data are generated from semi-structured interviews with 20 sworn female federal officers working in 10 federal law enforcement agencies. Interviews provide descriptions of the strategies women employ to cope with the negative attributes and challenges in federal law enforcement and the factors that influence women's persistence to remain in federal law enforcement. Despite the obstacles, women not only persist against the challenges, they highlight the unique attributes of federal law enforcement to the policing research community.
