Abstract

A revised road traffic law took effect in Japan in 2014, involving an obligatory disease condition declaration form when acquiring or renewing a driver's license, and imposing a penalty for making false statements about serious symptoms due to specific illnesses (e.g., epilepsy, schizophrenia, and mood disorder). Objections were raised regarding this legal revision, claiming that it could worsen the stigma associated with mental illness. However, the relationship between the law and mental illness-related stigma has not been investigated. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
