Abstract

This paper aims at continuing the conversation, slowly building over time, concerning the inclusion of the social-political sphere within our analytic/therapeutic dialogues and theories. Exploring examples of how larger cultural contexts always flow through us, the paper also notes our tendency through the years to narrow our own field of vision and quiet our anxieties about the world in which we, our patients and ourselves, live. This constriction affects our therapeutic work. If we do not listen for the contextual flow, or wonder about the absence of the social-political in our therapeutic dialogues, then we are in danger of reinforcing "malignant normality" and abdicating our moral responsibility.
