Abstract

High-strength steel and age-hardenable aluminum alloys, thanks to their favourable yield strength/specific gravity ratio and their good formability, are particularly suited for use in body structures required to have a high degree of plastic energy absorption in relation to the material weight involved. This has been investigated by using both test specimens and real body structures.
