Abstract

A GP who was jailed for nine months after being found guilty of human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation has been struck off by a medical practitioners tribunal.

Ayodeji Adewakun, 46, neglected to tell her out-of-hours employer that she faced serious criminal charges and told colleagues at her general practice that her legal issues were merely a domestic problem concerning a wage dispute.

Adewakun and her husband, Abimbola Adewakun, 48, a nurse, were imprisoned for nine and six months, respectively, over their treatment of Lydia Ogundowala, 30. They had brought her from Nigeria in February 2007 to work as nanny to their three children at their home in Erith, southeast London.
