Abstract

OBJECTIVE To understand the epidemic characteristics of suicidal behavior among the widowed in Kunming city,so as to provide the basis for the intervention of suicidal behavior.

METHODS Data on widowed death were obtained from resident death report registration system of Kunming city in 2013.Self-designed questionnaire was used to collect the information.

RESULTS In a total of 91 cases of suicide death among the widowed, there were no significant differences between men and women (P >0.05). Most were those over 65, rural, Han, unemployed/unemployment, farmers, and illiterate, accounting for 50.55%, 89.01%, 79.12%, 79.12%, and 69.23% respectively (P <0.05). 42(46.12%) committed suicide due to diseases and 24(26.37%) due to family disputes.

CONCLUSION Psychological health education should be carried out through various forms and channels,to focus on those over 65, rural, Han,unemployed/unemployment,farmers,and illiterate, it may have a more ideal effect in reducing the suicide occurrence among the widowed.
