Abstract

Recent years have witnessed increasing numbers of potentially harmful activities, promoted as “challenges” among school-age children. These activities, spread by word-of-mouth and social networks, may disseminate widely and rapidly. Children present a group especially vulnerable to new trends since they may lack understanding of the consequences of their behaviour. [SafetyLit note: The eraser challenge is a dare game that involves vigerously rubbing a rubber eraser against one’s skin while reciting numbers counting up or the English alphabet. The game may also involve applying alcohol-based hand clenser to the area to increase the burn pain.]
