Abstract

As Xu correctly states in a previous comment on Matthay and colleagues' article (1), it is already a federal crime for both private individuals and businesses to sell a firearm across state borders without a background check. It is also illegal for a person to buy a gun in a state where he or she does not maintain a residence. Again, as Xu correctly states, a California resident cannot drive to Nevada, buy a firearm, and then travel back to California: Such a transaction is already illegal.
