Abstract

This study examines the effects of both strain factors and daily internet use time on cyberspace in terms of two-fold actions: offending and victimization. It tests not only both independent effects of strain and daily internet use time, but also strain's mediating effect and interaction effects between strains and internet use time on both offending and victimization. That is, this study tests whether the effect of strain factors have an indirect effect on cyber delinquency by internet use time and whether cyber delinquency is high when the levels of both strain and internet use time are high. In addition, this study tests them across three age groups: elementary, middle, and high school students. Using data from surveying 353 students in Kyunggi area, results show that in case of cyber offending, internet use time is more important than strain factors and their interaction effect between strain and internet use time is significant in elementary school student age group. In case of victimization, the effects of strain factors are not significant, and internet use time is important in explaining victimization especially in elementary students. It is also found that the effect of strain on victimization is mediating by internet use time in middle school student age groups.

이 연구는 청소년의 일상긴장과 인터넷사용시간이 사이버비행에 어떻게 영향력을 갖는지를 살펴봄에 있어 사이버비행의 가해뿐만 아니라 피해에의 영향을 다루고 아울러 일상긴장과 인터넷사용시간의 각각의 독립효과이외에 일상긴장이 인터넷사용시간을 매개로 하여 작용하는지, 아니면 두 요인이 통합적으로 상호작용효과를 갖는지를 살펴보려고 했다. 이 연구에서는 무엇보다도 그것을 초등학생, 중학생, 고등학생을 대상으로 적용하여 연령층별로 차이가 있는지를 살펴보려고 하였고 이 분석을 위해 경기도 초, 중, 고등학교 청소년 353명을 대상으로 조사한 자료를 사용하였다. 그 분석결과 사이버비행 가해의 경우는 일상긴장보다는 인터넷사용시간의 영향력이 중요했지만 두 요인은 서로 통합적으로 상호작용을 하여 일상긴장, 특히 부모와의 긴장도 높고 또 인터넷사용시간도 많은 청소년들이 가해의 가능성이 높음을 제시했고 그러한 상호작용효과의 결과는 주로 초등학생들에게서 나타났다. 사이버비행 피해의 경우는 일상긴장은 거의 중요하지 않고 주로 인터넷사용시간이 피해를 설명하는 주요 요인이었는데 특히 초등학생에서 크게 작용했다. 사이버비행 피해의 경우는 일상긴장과 인터넷사용시간의 상호작용효과보다는 중학생의 경우에서 일상긴장이 인터넷사용 시간을 매개로 피해에 영향을 준다는 결과를 제시하기도 했다.
