Abstract

In Reply We thank Desapriya et al for the attentive correspondence to our study. As they note, long wait times for cataract surgery have been shown to be associated with decreased quality of life and increased injuries. As noted in our study, a study that we previously conducted demonstrated that cataract surgery was associated with decreased risk of fractures within 1 year after surgery in the population of US Medicare beneficiaries. However, as Desapriya and colleagues pointed out, the research on the association between cataract surgery and falls is less straightforward, with some studies demonstrating a protective association between cataract surgery and falls and other studies finding no association between the 2 events ...
