Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on public conflict over the last 18 years by using social network analysis (SNA). The objects that were analyzed were theses on public conflict. First, keywords were extracted from 80 theses, which were selected from the Research Information Sharing Service. An analysis of degree centrality was then performed using an SNA method. As a result, the most pronounced research topics were found to be conflict management and governance aimed at resolving public conflict; the most common research object was non-preferred facilities. This indicates that, in most cases, the resistance of local residents to the implementation of policies and the selection of locations for non-preferred facilities caused the onset and escalation of conflicts. This study's discussion of studies on public conflict will increase the understanding of these studies and facilitate further studies by suggesting directions for developing future exploration of the topic.
