Abstract

This paper reports an investigation of self-report driver stress and aberrant driver behaviour in a sample of 2806 participants. The relationship between, and psychometric properties of, the Driver Behaviour Inventory (DBI) and the Driver Behaviour Questionnaire (DBQ) were examined. The existing factor structure of the DBQ generally was supported. However, a new five-factor solution was identified for the DBI, that provides increased emphasis on situation-specific stressors. High levels of driver stress were consistently found to be associated with increased self-report of lapses, errors and violations.
