Abstract

Traffic accident cyclist deaths usually occur in collisions with motor vehicles at intersections, or in isolated accidents where the cyclist falls into a ditch or river beside the road. Pedestrian deaths may also occur in collisions with cyclists. Forensic autopsy analysis confirms that the prevention of collisions with motor vehicles at intersections is the most important measure to reduce the numbers of deaths caused by bicycle related traffic accidents. Cyclists should dismount at bus stops or taxi stands to prevent collisions with pedestrians. Prohibition of cycling under the influence of alcohol as well as consolidation of roadside structures is also important in reducing the number of deaths from cyclists falling into a ditch or a river while intoxicated
