Abstract

Rape is one of the fastest rising, yet most under-reported crimes in the United States. The effects of rape can result in various physical, logical and legal complications in the life of the victim. This paper presents an overview of rape, including the definition and etiology of rape, rape myths, physical and psychological problems related to rape, treatment procedures, and most importantly, measures in health education that can help reduce the probability of rape occurrence. Reducing the likelihood that an individual will become a rape victim is an objective of preventive health education. This article can help people learn what rape encompasses, how it is likely to occur, and how to prevent or cope with such an experience.
