Abstract

GPs in Scotland have an important role in helping patients curb excessive alcohol consumption, but lessons need to be learnt on the best way to support interventions, say two research reports.12

Scotland introduced a national programme of delivering alcohol brief interventions for heavy drinkers in 2008. From then till 2015 more than 560 000 such interventions were delivered, more than half of them in primary care.
