Abstract

This paper examines the global positioning, socio-economic impactand management of road traffic accidents in Nigeria. Nigeria has aserious road accident problem and more road safety measures need tobe introduced for its effective management. In order to identifypriorities for actions it is important that there is a clear understandingof the road accident problem and the likely effectiveness of road safetyimprovements. It is therefore, a priority for Nigeria to have anappropriate accident information system and that they carry outresearch and evaluation studies of remedial measures. Another basicrequirement is a well trained road safety teams which are capable ofco-ordinating and integrating a wide range of programmes for roadsanity at lowest cost.
