Abstract

Young children can choke to death when eating whole grapes, doctors have warned in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Amy Lumsden and Jamie Cooper, of the emergency department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, UK, described three cases of young children who needed emergency treatment after eating whole grapes, two of whom died. The authors called for greater public awareness about the risk of choking on grapes and said that young children should be supervised while eating.
