Abstract

'Everything that was beautiful has burned in me. Disappeared' ( Dobrinka 1993 ). This tragic statement, by a Bosnian refugee, illustrates the true cost of sexual violence to the individual. This price is paid not only at the time, but also for the rest of that person's life. This article will discuss sexual abuse and torture, which is prevalent in repressive and unstable regimes and becomes epidemic in times of war.
