Abstract

This article examines the effects of parental domestic violence on children and presents a case study of a group work project with primary school aged boys. This piece of work was a joint project between two dramatherapists and Leeds Theatre in Education Company and develops the dramatherapy group into an improvised performance. It considers how the different styles of work complemented each other and enabled the boys to begin to express their emotions in a profound manner through the medium of drama. It examines the relationship between the boys and their mothers and suggests that dramatherapy is a valuable approach in breaking cyclical domestic violence.
