Abstract

A school-based substance abuse prevention program is presented. This model focuses on the use of group work and enhancing individual developmental skills as useful prevention techniques. SUMMARY The curriculum was developed to decrease substance use/abuse behavior of young people. This program has been expanded to include parent groups as a complement to the school programming. In addition to providing accurate substance use/abuse information, the program focuses on building developmental skills in a group context. The goal is to support significant interpersonal relationships among parents, students, and teachers and to decrease substance use/abuse. The program's success is evidenced by parent turnout and consistent positive feedback from parents, students, teachers, and school administrators.
