Abstract

This research focuses on the treatment of depression experienced by adult women residing in rural communities using a unique delivery medium, Technologically Assisted Psychotherapeutic Intervention (TAPI), to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It is suggested that TAPI can effectively transcend the barriers of availability and accessibility. If TAPI can effectively provide CBT to rural residents, then of interest is whether or not women, who have reported depressive symptoms and reside in rural Utah, report changes in their symptoms of depression and if these changes can be sustained three and six months post-intervention. This study assessed if women diagnosed with moderate or moderately severe symptoms of depression, and residing in rural Utah, would benefit from CBT that was provided through TAPI. This novel research demonstrates that it is possible to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through the medium referred to as TAPI to women diagnosed with depression and residing in rural Utah with a positive clinical outcome.
