Abstract

There are pros and cons to the use of cell phones in cars. The positive side is safety and protection. When stranded, cell phones can and do provide a measure of safety. When lost, cell phones can get drivers back in the right direction. When there is an accident, cell phones can summon rescue personnel quickly. However, there are a growing number of people who believe that cell phones usage is very distracting to drivers and that usage poses a serious threat to traffic safety. Several experts recommend learning and practicing safety first when using cell phones. Some tips: stop when you must dial, use new technological features such as voice-activated or speed dialing, use speakerphone units, avoid emotional calls, do not add to the cell phone distraction by trying to tune the radio or light a cigarette. The best cell phone usage advice, use common sense and know and understand the dangers and benefits of cell phones.
