Abstract

The article focuses on the court case Prosecutor v. Taylor in which the former President of Liberia Charles Ghankay Taylor was convicted for gender-based charges. It discusses gender-based crimes in the trial judgement of Taylor and highlights the effect of rape, sexual slavery and forced marriages on personal dignity. It further informs that crime against women and girls disempowered the male members of the community as they were unable to protect their own wives, mothers, and sisters.
