Abstract |
After the economic crisis, women's economic activities have increased and women's voice in their families has been expanded. With those changes, women's self-consciousness began to grow. In the process of spreading market businesses, capitalistic tendencies like materialism and individualism began to grow in this closed society. And with the in-flowof foreign cultures, the democratic inclinations of liberalism and secularism started to appear in North Korean society. Those new values affect the existing thoughts of relationship between man and woman, marriage and occupation. Nowadays North Korean women say that the money is the one of the most important things in choosing their life time partners and jobs. With this money-first policy of North Korean women, they have changed their views of sexual relationship. Before the economic crisis, their views of virginity was one of their important values to uphold, but now the view has been changed. They view sex as just as a means to seek confronts in their harsh lives. According to the testimonies of most North Korean defectors, sex trafficking in the North is rampant and to most of the residents, this is not a hot issue. they think it is just a current trend.
