Abstract

Human trafficking affects Switzerland primarily in that this country is a target destination. Smooth cooperation among police, justice, and migration authorities and victim support agencies is prerequisite to effectively combating human trafficking. "Cooperation Mechanisms to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings" - a guideline drafted by the Swiss Coordination Unit Against the Trafficking of Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (SCOTT) - suggests efficient ways and forms of cooperation. By amending the Swiss criminal statute against trafficking in humans, an essential legal tool for combating human trafficking has been brought into line with international standards. Swiss prosecuting authorities can now resort to new means for combating human trafficking effectively.
