Abstract

Studies of the effects of pavement edge markings revealed that (1) the number of fatalities were reduced on two-lane rural state highways, (2) no significant changes were recorded in the number of persons injured or in the total number of accidents, (3) accidents at intersections and driveways were significantly reduced during both daytime and nighttime conditions, and (4) the turning collisions associated with access points were reduced during daytime conditions.
