Abstract

The scientific development of psychology-based suicidology during the past fifty years recognizes a psychological process which precedes the suicide act. This suicide process is also a discursive process, as the individual immerses himself in an internal suicidal discourse, which is shaped by cultural norms, common language, and influenced by biological, cognitive and affective mechanisms. The authors will introduce concepts of discursive suicidology by presenting and interpreting the written discourse of a suicidal individual collected from the archive of a suicide related newsgroup, www.alt.suicide.holiday.
