Abstract

In recent years, more attention has been devoted to the development and testing of psychological treatments and interventions for suicidal individuals. These interventions can be minimal (e.g. brief follow up), short term and targeted, or longer term treatments. This presentation will describe the interventions that have efficacy data and provide an overview of the efficacy findings for these interventions. Obstacles to conducting efficacy trials with suicidal individuals will be described and a manual that we have developed to guide clinicians and investigators in working with suicidal individuals will be discussed. Gaps in our existing knowledge and directions for future research will be described.
