Abstract

The Wexford Self Harm Intervention Project was set up as a joint initiative between the Suicide Resource Office and the National Counselling Service in the previous South Eastern Health Board. It provides short term counselling/psychotherapy to individuals who are experiencing suicidal ideation or the impulse to self harm. The service is set up as a low threshold, easy access service. It is intended to complement existing service pathways and aims to provide increased choice for potential clients The National Counselling Service (NCS) model of service delivery has been used as a template for service delivery and adapted to the specific client group. A service evaluation has been completed in March 2005 and the project has moved from pilot project status to having secured funding for continuation on a permanent basis.
