Abstract

In Australia, the Criminal Code Amendment (Suicide Related Material Offences) Act 2005 makes it an offence for a person to use the internet, or other carriage service, to counsel or incite suicide or to promote or provide instruction on a particular method of committing suicide. This presentation describes the lead-up to the introduction of this legislation, and the media coverage of its enactment. It also considers the public's reaction.
