Abstract

Computer and video games (especially "ego-shooter") were often named as causal factor with regards to school shootings. This review reflects on computer game use, the debate about computer games and aggressive behaviour as well as on the link between computer games and school shootings. Despite the literature on computer games and aggressive behaviour yielding mixed results, no causal relationship can be found between computer games and school shootings. Other influential factors such as private ownership of guns and media coverage of school shootings need to be addressed in more detail in the ongoing debate.
