Abstract

A survey of the use of cyclo- and poly(phosphazenes) in fire resistant applications is presented. Where appropriate, synthesis and commercial availability will be indicated. Two fundamentally different approaches, phosphazenes as additives or as intrinsically flame resistant materials, will be discussed. While the former category is limited to cyclophosphazenes, the latter involves linear poly(phosphazenes), cyclolinear and cyclomatrix materials and carbon chain polymers with cyclophosphazenes as substituents.
