Abstract

Metallocene catalyzed olefin copolymers offer new opportunities for modification of highly filled polyethylene polymers. Modification of HDPE with metallocene LLDPE copolymers results in improved performance when compared to the addition of conventional LLDPE. Modification of flame retardant HDPE with these materials can impart improved flow and impact resistance. General stabilization, coupling, and compounding considerations are reviewed. The flame retardant HDPE formulations are suitable for use in injection molded furniture required to meet European and North American burn test standards.
