Abstract

A flame self-extinction phenomenon, which takes place during a fire within a closed compartment, is explained based on the thermal theory of the initiation of flaming combustion. The moment that flame extinction occurs is determined by observing the gas temperature (or pressure) curves' breaks which are consistent with spontaneous and spasmodic heat-transfer changes during self-extinction of the flame.
