Abstract

Healthcare services should incorporate suicide prevention as a “core component” of their work as part of a wider prevention strategy, the World Health Organization has advised in a new report.

Preventing Suicide: A Global Imperative1 highlighted the importance of early identification and effective management of the mental health and alcohol disorders that can lead to suicide. It advised healthcare providers to embed these principles in the design of services and called for increased funding to be made available for the necessary improvements.
