Abstract

The design of a snow fence to control drifting on I-80 west of Laramie is described. For the first time, holding specific amounts of snow was the principal criterion in snow fence design. The design incorporates information on precipitation, wind speed, snow transportation rates, and climatological factors. Further data will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the fence and as a step toward forecasting blowing snow conditions.
