Abstract

In recent years, numerous studies have examined the possible existence of different personality profiles in batterers, using the MCMI and the MMPI as assessment tools. The present study assesses the main clinical personality characteristics and explores the existence of different profiles in a sample of 105 batterers serving an alternative penal measure. Subjects were evaluated with the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI).

RESULTS indicate that approximately 80% of the sample falls into the normal range in most of the scales that make up the PAI. However, the administered analyses suggest the existence of three distinct personality profiles: "Problem deniers", "Moderators" and "Realists". These results are consistent with previous studies in which the PAI was administered to batterers.
