Abstract

While examining the synthesis report of a heroin project carried out in Switzerland, several methodical faults were detected. The data presented is insufficient and doesn't really allow for an examination of the claimed success. Most of the participants failed to fulfill the initial criteria, therefore causing the results not to be representative for the target group. Singled out cases of success cannot be interpreted as general success. Particularly as they are not use to the used substance. Practically no case of a drug free period could be achieved. Furthermore there is no proof of achieving strategic goals (lowering of delinquency, improvement of the social and health situation and that of the connection with the drugs scene). During the experiment simultaneous consumption could not be excluded sufficiently. The psycho-social care was insufficient and proved to be the weak point of the project. Attempts of comparison with other methods of treatment as well as a cost effectiveness analysis founder on methodical inaccessibilities. Due to the content of this report a confirmation of a positive interpretation of the outcome of the project is not possible.
